These two-car trains are intended for the German passenger operator Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn.

Zürich HB is considered the most convenient passenger station in Europe

Seven trains have been delivered, with the latest dispatched from the Krefeld plant in October 2023.

The contract for their supply with hydrogen fuel cells was signed in the summer of 2022.

The tests encompass in-depth assessments, electromagnetic compatibility, and brake trials.

Subsequent operational tests will follow, and upon successful completion, the trains will be granted operational approval.

NEB locomotive drivers are scheduled to undergo training for Mireo Plus H operation from mid-2024, with the new rolling stock set to be in operation by December 2024.

These trains will operate on the Heidekrautbahn line in Berlin and Brandenburg as part of a pilot project, which also involves establishing a facility for producing “green” hydrogen and a refueling station.

The daily hydrogen consumption for refueling the trains is estimated at around 900 kg.

Siemens Mobility’s Krefeld plant is also constructing 31 battery-electric trains for NEB, designed for partially electrified routes in the metropolitan region starting in early 2024.
