Sydney Metro West stations enter early works phase
13.04.2026
The New South Wales Government has offered a first look at Sydney Metro West stations. The project is set to double rail capacity between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD. It is targeting a 2032 opening.

New station designs and early works
According to Sydney Metro, Gamuda, Laing O’Rourke and DT Infrastructure will build new stations at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays and Hunter Street, with construction set to begin soon.

Early works are starting this month at North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays. The work includes the delivery of machinery and equipment and the set-up of temporary work sites, including site offices. It also covers utilities investigations and maintenance, survey works, traffic management and maintenance. These early works come ahead of major station construction, which is due to start by the end of 2026.

Sydney Metro West project design and delivery
Bates Smart, SAA Architects, John McAslan + Partners, Neeson Murcutt Neille, Stewart Architecture and Aileen Sage Architects are designing the five stations. The final design for each station will be confirmed after a detailed design process. That process is expected to be completed early next year.
“All nine stations on the 24-kilometre Sydney Metro West line will be designed to respond to their unique neighbourhoods, creating welcoming, people-focused transport hubs that improve connectivity and support future growth,” the NSW Government said.

Lendlease, Mirvac and Coombes Property Group were appointed to design and construct Sydney Metro West’s flagship city station at Hunter Street. Work there will begin later this year once cavern excavation is finished.
The remaining contracts for Sydney Metro West stations at Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park and Pyrmont will be announced by the end of the year.
