17.10.2022
Another shipment from Stadler Rail for use in the UK has arrived at the Test Center of the Railway Research Institute in Velimi/Cerhenicích. The Stadler Flirt is owned by Transport for Wales, which uses it as part of the Wales & Borders operational fleet.
Railway Supply magazine writes about this with reference to Zdopravy.
The main drive of the three-mode Flirt train will be electricity from a 25 kV contact network. At the same time, it has a battery and a diesel unit for shorter distances.
The new train was recently presented by Stadler at the InnoTrans exhibition in Berlin. It is to be deployed on lines north of Cardiff. This is part of a major contract for 35 Flirt units and 36 Citylink trams. A total of 24 three-mode trains have been ordered (seven three-car, seventeen four-car), the rest will be diesel. The air-conditioned carriages will be fully equipped in accordance with the requirements for modern railway transport.
