PKP Intercity has received the first two of 12 Flirt EMUs produced at the Siedlce plant by Stadler Polska. The entire order must be delivered by the third quarter of 2023. The new electric trains are part of a PLN 1 billion (€204.7 million) contract signed with Stadler, including maintenance for 15 years. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to RailwayPro.

Stadler Flirt

The new electric trains are fully compliant with the latest TSI version and are equipped with the ETCS Guardia on-board system, developed and manufactured by Stadler railway traffic control division. The Guardia system supports both ETCS level 1 and 2, as well as the conventional class B security system. This means that the vehicle meets the highest safety standards in the field of rail traffic control. Switching between systems occurs dynamically, without the need to stop the train. As a result, the system allows the vehicle to be operated while maintaining the highest safety standards, with a full dynamic transition between ETCS level 1, 2 and the traditional system.

When designing and building, the manufacturer took into account environmental issues using environmentally friendly and recyclable materials. The energy recovery system ensures that the trains will return the energy generated during braking to the catenary. Acoustic soundproofing will reduce the noise level inside the cars, which increases the comfort of travel and the work of train crews.

Malaszewicze is no longer an EU priority

Flirt electric trains are equipped with air conditioning and monitoring systems, electrical sockets, GSM/LTE signal amplifiers and Wi-Fi. The trains will provide passengers with increased comfort and a special place for transporting bicycles, as well as adapted for people with disabilities. During the journey, PKP Intercity will be able to offer hot and cold meals and drinks served both in the passenger seat and in the catering area.

The new Flirt fleet now being delivered is compatible with the Flirt trains delivered by Stadler in 2015, allowing the two train series to be combined. This capability gives PKP Intercity greater operational flexibility.
