The contract includes spare units to ensure reliable performance during maintenance. And because of rising demand, the deal also offers an option for 40 additional engines to support future fleet expansion.
Before commercial service begins, four trains will undergo extensive testing in Europe and Saudi Arabia. This process ensures the fleet can handle the region’s high temperatures and challenging desert conditions.
Stadler Enhances Efficiency and Sustainability
The mtu Series 4000 engines comply with EU Stage V emission standards. They deliver optimal efficiency, reduced emissions, and strong performance in demanding environments, enhancing safety and comfort for passengers traveling at speeds up to 200 km/h.
Stadler emphasized that these advanced drive systems reflect a strong commitment to sustainable operations. And with a focus on efficiency, the technology reduces operational costs while maintaining superior reliability.
Rolls-Royce, with a history of supplying more than 70 mtu engines to Saudi Arabia Railways since 2012, brings proven expertise to this partnership. This collaboration strengthens confidence in the performance and durability of the new fleet.
Industry experts note that these upgrades will not only boost passenger satisfaction but also support the region’s broader vision of building a modern, connected transportation network.
