Stadler Digital Labs launches rail software JV in Portugal

Stadler Digital Labs (STADL) has been launched by Stadler and Critical Software as a joint venture focused on new software solutions for the railway sector, as reported by Railway-News.

It is intended to combine Stadler’s rail experience with Critical Software’s strengths in software engineering, safety-critical systems, cybersecurity, and applied digital innovation.
Stadler Digital Labs and the Stadler–Critical Software joint venture
The ownership split for the Stadler and Critical Software joint venture is 51% Stadler and 49% Critical Software, according to a Stadler media release. At the same time, Critical Software will act as the strategic founding partner. It will be responsible for establishing the engineering, safety, cybersecurity, and innovation foundations for STADL.
Stadler Digital Labs will operate from two Portugal locations: one office in Coimbra and another in Lisbon. The Lisbon office will be located within Critical Software’s facilities. Also, it is set to begin operations with a team of 100 people, increasing to 300 over the next three years, as Critical Software notes.
Railway software solutions and cybersecurity focus
The primary focus of Stadler Digital Labs is to provide scalable engineering capacity and deliver end-to-end solutions in railway software, cybersecurity and digital products. In addition, the model is intended to support asset reuse, process standardisation, and knowledge sharing.
