The Helsinki City public transport operator, Kaupunkiliikenne, announced a €1.6 billion tender in 2023 for the supply and maintenance of up to 183 trams.

The firm part of the procurement includes the delivery of 63 units, intended to replace the fleet of two- and three-section trams of series Nr I and Nr II, manufactured by the Finnish company Valmet between 1973 and 1987.

The rolling stock must be suitable for operation at temperatures down to -35°C and be equipped with a battery with a range of 1 km.

The competition is scheduled to be concluded in autumn 2025.

The rolling stock is expected to be deployed from 2027 to 2034.
