A new high-speed train with a speed of up to 400 kilometers per hour, which is being developed by Russian Railways and Sinara, should be manufactured and certified by 2028. The trains will be produced at the Ural Locomotives plant, a joint venture between the Sinara group of companies and Siemens under an agreement signed with Russian Railways in 2020 for the production of trains for high-speed railways in Russia.

The fact that the new train will be completed by 2028 was announced by the President of the Sinara Group of Companies Dmitry Pumpyansky at a press conference of the state news agency TASS, informs Railway Supply magazine.

“The creation of a train with a maximum speed of 400 km/h is a challenge not only for the organization of traffic, but also for the whole world and Russian science in general. We will be one of three countries that can produce such trains. And the task today is to make, test, certify and prepare this train by 2028”, said Dmitry Pumpyansky.

This task will require the implementation of a wide range of supporting scientific projects in the field of materials science, aerodynamics, 3D scanning, 3D printing and the development of digital twins, Pumpyansky added. “A high-speed train test chamber is actually more complex than a jet test chamber”, said Sinara Group President.

Earlier Pumpyansky reported that the engineering center of Russian Railways and the Sinara group, located in the scientific and technical center (STC) of TMK in Skolkovo, is developing a new Russian train for high-speed lines with a cruising speed of 360 kilometers per hour and a maximum speed of up to 400.

It has not yet been announced where the train will run at a speed of 400 km/h on the Russian network. However, an additional high-speed line is being built between Moscow and St. Petersburg, along which trains will be able to move at speeds of up to 400 km/h. The railway between the two cities currently consists of four tracks, but will be increased to six. Construction is expected to be completed by 2027. Currently, Russian Railways serves the route between Moscow and St. Petersburg by high-speed trains with a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Sapsan trains are used, designed and built by Siemens based on the Velaro platform.

Earlier, RIA Novosti reported that a high-speed train in Russia will be ready in 2025.
