A number of Russian railway operators are proposing to return Interpipe’s access to the Russian railway wheel market in order to solve the problem of rising prices for solid-rolled wheels.

This was stated by the executive director of the Union of Railway Transport Operators  Alexei Druzhinin in an interview with Kommersant, reports Railway Supply magazine.

According to him, by the end of the year, a surplus of railway wheels is expected in the Russian Federation.

However, now, due to the fact that operators have begun to massively withdraw wagons from repairs against the backdrop of growing demand for freight transportation, a deficit is formed.

Interpipe has started deliveries of railway wheels for Indian Railways

Railway wheels in Russia are produced only by the Vyksa Steel Works and the Evraz company.

In the near future, they will be stopped for preventive maintenance, so the deficit will increase even more. In recent years, Interpipe has supplied wheels to the Russian market under protective duties of 34.22%.

In December 2020, imports came under a complete ban.
