Siemens Delivers 2,000th Vectron Locomotive to ÖBB

Siemens Mobility has handed the 2,000th Vectron locomotive to ÖBB, marking a production milestone for a European platform approved in 20 countries and sold to more than 115 customers.

2,000th Vectron locomotive marks production growth

According to Siemens Mobility’s official announcement⁠, the ceremonial handover took place on 23 July 2026 at the company’s Munich-Allach plant. The recipient was Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), and the unit was the 2,000th electric Vectron built.

The factory has manufactured the platform since its market launch in 2012. Siemens reports nearly 3,000 Vectron sales to more than 115 customers, showing that sales have moved ahead of completed production.

The previous landmark came when the 1,000th Vectron left Munich-Allach for DSB on 22 October 2021⁠. Siemens has therefore built the next 1,000 locomotives in less than five years.

The platform is approved for operation in 20 countries and certified for passenger speeds of up to 230 km/h. Its multi-system design and national approvals support cross-border freight and passenger operations across different European networks.

Vectron X adds a connected driver’s cab

The production milestone follows the official Vectron X launch⁠ in June 2026. The new generation adds a central 11.6-inch Smart Screen, app-based functions, interfaces for third-party applications and near-real-time connectivity.

Drivers will be able to access operational data, route information and selected operator applications in the cab. Siemens also lists Remote Start, Vectron Eco Cruise, TrainPlay, condition monitoring and maintenance coordination among the platform’s digital functions.

The announcement did not disclose the milestone locomotive’s fleet number, technical configuration or intended service with ÖBB.
