Heavy Rain Disrupts About 100 Ahmedabad–Mumbai Trains

The Ahmedabad–Mumbai train disruption affected around 100 services after heavy rain pushed water to danger levels at several bridges and above the tracks at Billimora yard.

Water reaches danger levels at railway bridges

Western Railway cancelled more than 50 trains and short-terminated roughly the same number, according to The Times of India report⁠.

Water reached the danger level at the bridge between Gholvad and Umbergaon at 4:45 a.m. and near the Sanjan Yard bridge at 6:50 a.m. Trains initially passed the affected sections at restricted speeds of 10–15 km/h.

Conditions later deteriorated at the Udvada–Vapi bridge and Billimora yard. Water rose above the tracks at Billimora, bringing traffic through the yard to a complete halt. An official Western Railway passenger update⁠ also identified the Gholvad–Umbergaon Road and Billimora sections as affected locations.

Vande Bharat and other express trains cancelled

Cancelled services included the Vande Bharat, Karnavati Express, Tejas Express, Vadodara–Bharuch MEMU, Bandra–Nizamuddin Garib Rath, Bandra–Ahmedabad Lok Shakti, Mumbai–Delhi Tejas Rajdhani and Mumbai–Jaipur Superfast.

Trains from Chandigarh, Hanumangarh, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Bhuj, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Indore were short-terminated at stations including Ankleshwar, Navsari, Valsad, Nadiad, Udhna and Utran.

The Jodhpur–KSR Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram–Nizamuddin services were diverted via Surat, Udhna, Paldhi and Jalgaon.

Food, water and refunds arranged for passengers

Railway personnel provided stranded passengers with food, tea, drinking water and other supplies. Refunds were initiated for passengers who chose not to continue their journeys beyond the stations where trains were terminated.
