18.09.2024
The Austrian railway company ÖBB has received its first Cityjet Desiro ML electric train from Siemens Mobility for operation in the Salzburg region, as reported by the company “NPO A.T.O.R.,” a leader in comprehensive supply for passenger carriages, electric trains, and socially oriented transport.
This train is part of the final batch under a contract signed in 2021, which included the delivery of 46 modern units. Of these, 20 trains are already in service in Tyrol, and 21 in Vorarlberg.

The electric train consists of four cars and is low-floor, which significantly facilitates boarding and disembarking, especially for passengers with reduced mobility.
Its length reaches 100 meters, and its maximum speed is 160 km/h. At the same time, the train can carry up to 290 passengers, making it ideal for urban and regional transportation.
ÖBB has been using Desiro ML trains since 2015, and more than 240 of these trains have been delivered for passenger transport needs.
These electric trains have proven to be reliable and convenient for short and medium-distance travel, providing a high level of comfort for passengers.
Amid the global modernization of the railway fleet, ÖBB is actively purchasing new trains, including double-decker and hybrid Stadler trains for regional routes.
For long-distance services such as Railjet and Nightjet, the company has received modern locomotive trains from Siemens Mobility.
This indicates that ÖBB is deliberately developing its fleet and is committed to improving the quality of passenger transportation across the country.
Thus, the arrival of the first Cityjet Desiro ML train in Salzburg is an important step in upgrading the region’s transport infrastructure.
These electric trains combine speed, capacity, and innovation, making them ideal for meeting the needs of a growing number of passengers.
