Siemens Trams for Cleveland Enhance GCRTA Network

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) signed a purchase agreement with Siemens Mobility in 2023 for 24 high-floor S200 trams with a value of $164 million. The authority chose to exercise an option in March 2025 for 18 more trams, bringing the total to 48.

Delivery is earmarked for 2026, with the arrival of the first trams in Cleveland. The S200 model tram is specifically built for harsh winter environments and is equipped with double-level entry doors ideal for platforms with differing levels. This is a big step towards improving the light rail transport system in Cleveland.

Siemens Mobility is continuing to enhance its local assembly and digital maintenance offering across the US. This will improve overall product reliability for public transport operators.

Stadler Citylink Trams for Utah Transit Authority

The Utah Transit Authority contracted Stadler Rail in 2024 for 20 Citylink tram-trains with options to purchase up to 60 more, increasing the cumulative total to 80. UTA confirmed exercising one option in October 2025 for another 20 tram-trains for the TRAX system in Salt Lake City.

Stadler manufactures these trams in Salt Lake City. The Citylink model is a combination of energy efficiency, capacity for a considerable number of passengers, and a hybrid propulsion system. Thus, Stadler trams will be part of the “TRAX Forward” initiative. Its emphasis is on sustainable transport development.

The rising investment in tram infrastructure by the US is indicative of a transition towards sustainable transport in America. The involvement of Siemens and Stadler is adding to their reputation for being committed to improving public transport in America.
