According to ETInfra, Samastipur DRM Jyoti Prakash Mishra said a designated agency has been assigned the work. It has been told to complete the job on a priority basis. He said the system is meant to support a quick response during emergencies. Also, it is meant to improve safety for passengers and railway staff.

Panic buttons at Samastipur stations roll out in phases

As The Times of India reported, the installation will be carried out in stages. First, stations on the Saharsa-Mansi section will get panic siren buttons. Meanwhile, later phases will cover other key stations. These include Sitamarhi, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bettiah and Bapudham Motihari.

Platforms, counters and emergency alerts

Mishra said the system is being introduced as passenger footfall rises in the division. He also said more passenger trains are operating there. These include semi high-speed services. Panic buttons will be installed on every platform and near ticket booking counters. He added that the setup will also be important during medical emergencies on station premises.

According to Samastipur PRO R K Singh, the button can be used in an emergency. Passengers or railway staff will be able to press it when they sense a threat. This will trigger a loud siren. At the same time, an alert will go to the control room and station authorities. This will allow a coordinated and timely response.

He added that the system is expected to serve as a deterrent. It is also expected to work as a rapid-response tool. It is intended to further strengthen passenger safety in the Samastipur division.
