Sairang rail-carried cars signal Mizoram’s rail milestone
15.12.2025
Sairang rail-carried cars have reached Mizoram for the first time. Sairang Railway Station received a direct inward automobile rake carrying 119 cars from Changsari near Guwahati, as set out in the Ministry of Railways press release (PIB).
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The development was also reported by ETInfra. The Ministry said this should improve vehicle availability in Aizawl and reduce reliance on long road transport.

The Ministry said the arrival should support Mizoram’s automobile sector, with benefits for dealers, service providers, and customers. In the same release, it described the step as significant for the state’s infrastructure and economic development, and linked it to Indian Railways’ work to expand connectivity, support regional development, and foster inclusive growth.
Bairabi–Sairang railway line and new passenger services
According to the Ministry, the Bairabi–Sairang railway line is a major milestone for Mizoram. Built through challenging terrain, the 51.38 km route includes 45 tunnels and forms an important link for the region’s integration with the rest of the country—an overview also discussed by Railway Supply.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the line on September 13. On that occasion, he flagged off the RajdhExpress between Aizawl (Sairang) and Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal), the Mizoram Express between Aizawl (Sairang) and Guwahati, and an Express train between Aizawl (Sairang) and Kolkata. The Ministry said the launches marked Mizoram’s integration into India’s national rail network.

The Ministry also reported an encouraging passenger response. It said all three services are running with high occupancy: 147 per cent for the Sairang–Anand Vihar Terminal Rajdhani Express, 115 per cent for the Sairang–Guwahati Mizoram Express, and 139 per cent for the Sairang–Kolkata Express. The Ministry said passengers have found the trains convenient and cost-effective, with significant time savings. It added that improved rail connectivity is expanding access to major cities and economic hubs, and to education and healthcare in nearby states.
Freight and parcel operations build a logistics corridor
Freight operations began soon after the inauguration. The first freight movement, on September 14, carried 21 cement wagons from Assam to Aizawl. Since then, the route has moved essential goods including cement, construction materials, automobiles, sand, and stone chips.
Parcel activity has also started at Sairang. The first parcel consignment was booked on September 19, when Anthurium flowers were sent to Anand Vihar Terminal through the parcel van of the Sairang–Anand Vihar Terminal Rajdhani Express.
Between September 17 and December 12, the Ministry said a total of 17 rakes were handled—an indication, it added, that the line is becoming a reliable logistics corridor that can reduce transport costs and support Mizoram’s economic and infrastructure growth.
