The contract provides for the development and modernization of existing systems on board six series of trains equipped with SCMT. Funding (€300 million) is currently available to cover about 40 per cent of the associated costs, but a budget is currently being worked on to ensure 100 per cent coverage.
Last June, RFI completed a tender for the deployment of ERTMS in Italy. The €2.7 billion package is divided among four regions and four leading companies and covers a total of 4,220 kilometers of track. The entire 4,800 km run is estimated at 3.2 billion euros. In total, the Italian ERTMS program provides for an investment of 13 billion euros until 2036.
