Rail supplier news: Hitachi Rail and Alstom contracts

Hitachi Rail has secured a contract. It covers nine Frecciarossa passenger-rail trainsets. According to Hitachi Rail’s press release, it is valued at 260 billion euros. It also adds to Tranitalia’s past orders from Hitachi Rail. In addition, company officials said it is part of Tranitalia’s fleet renewal program. They said it is designed to offer modern passenger-rail service in Italy. Meanwhile, officials said 57 new trains will be in service by 2029. Railway-News reports the same timeline. The Frecciarossa trainsets will be manufactured at Hitachi Rail’s plants. Those plants are in Naples and Pistoia, Italy.

Also, Railway Supply reports Alstom’s C$1.3 billion contract from Metrolinx. It will continue operations and maintenance for GO Transit and Union Pearson Express. At the same time, the agreement runs through 2031, Alstom said. GO Transit provides regional transit services in and around Toronto. Union Pearson Express connects Pearson Airport to downtown Toronto. Still, in 2024-2025, Alstom reported 117,020 GO rail trips. It also reported 56,494 Union Pearson Express trips. In addition, it reported on-time performance above 97% on a mixed-use rail network.

Precision Terminals Logistics takes over Portland terminal

Separately, in Maine, Precision Terminals Logistics has become the new operator. The Portland site is a CSX-owned Transflo transloading terminal. PTL said in a press release that the facility serves multiple commodities. It features 110-car capacity. In addition, it offers containerized waste lift capacity. The company added that the site gives shippers national rail access via CSX.

Trafag adds Picostat mechanical pressure switches

Meanwhile, Trafag is a Swiss-based manufacturer of high-accuracy measurement devices. It has added three new models to its Picostat family of mechanical pressure switches. For example, the new models are the PST4B 9B4, PST4M 9M4 and PST4K 9K4. Company officials said this in a press release. They said the devices were engineered to deliver reliable switching performance for rail operations. Also, Trafag said the three models share key installation and connectivity features. Those features simplify integration.
