Central West line reopened between Emerald and Longreach

The Central West line has reopened between Emerald and Longreach, restoring that section of the network. Even so, Spirit of the Outback and Inlander services remain disrupted by broader network damage, with rail replacement coaches operating where possible. Passengers are being directed to the operator’s website for the latest long-distance rail travel updates.

North Coast line reopened after ballast and washout repairs

The North Coast line reopened last week after crews completed washout, scouring and resurfacing works, a development also noted by Railway Supply. Queensland Rail said 1300 tonnes of ballast were used as part of the recovery task.

Queensland Rail Head of Regional Scott Cornish said he was proud of staff efforts on the ground, saying that seeing the work firsthand was a reminder of teams continuing to operate in challenging conditions to restore critical connections.

Queensland Rail said it remains committed to supporting affected regions through the recovery, rebuilding safely and reconnecting communities as soon as possible.
