The offer lets holders travel free of charge on DB long-distance trains in Germany on the day after each gold medal won by German athletes.

How Probe BahnCard Gold free travel works?

When the conditions are met, Probe BahnCard Gold serves as the travel ticket itself for all long-distance trains operated by Deutsche Bahn within Germany. The free-travel mechanism is reserved for holders of the promotional card issued specifically for the Winter Olympics period, with the terms set out on DB’s Trial BahnCard Gold offer page.

Discounts valid even without gold medals

The promotion also keeps the standard discount structure in place if no gold medals are won. That means 25% off Super Sparpreis and Sparpreis fares, plus 25% or 50% off Flexpreis fares, depending on whether the customer chooses BahnCard 25 Gold or BahnCard 50 Gold.

Prices, availability, and campaign details

Probe BahnCard Gold is on sale from January 16 to February 5 and is valid for three months. The BahnCard 25 Gold version starts at EUR 19.90 (2nd class), while BahnCard 50 Gold starts at EUR 76.90 (2nd class). After the trial period ends, the card automatically converts into a standard subscription unless it is canceled.

Deutsche Bahn is also backing the launch with a TV campaign aimed at winter sports fans. The spot features former German Olympic champions Markus Wasmeier, Sven Hannawald, and Viktoria Rebensburg, shown traveling on ICE trains, as reported by Railway PRO, and it is also running on the company’s online platforms.
