The first “Sapsan” from the new batch arrived in St. Petersburg

Siemens Mobility has started delivering the third batch of high-speed electric trains “Sapsan” – the first of them arrived by sea on August 9, 2021 from the German port of Lubeck in St. Petersburg. The new batch includes 13 trains, and after its transfer to the customer the “Sapsan” fleet will have 29 units. Currently, 16 trains of the Velaro RUS series are in operation at Russian Railways.

Directly in the port, 10 cars were mechanically coupled to the train. The final assembly, as well as commissioning tests will be held at the depot near St. Petersburg, their completion is scheduled for December 2021, informs the railway magazine Railway Supply.
After that, the train will pass certification tests, and in the second half of 2022 it will be put into operation. The remaining 12 trains will be delivered according to the agreed schedule, the last one is planned to be delivered in July 2023.
Certificate of conformity for two-system ten-car “Lastochka” received
Trains of the Velaro RUS series speed up to 250 km/h, they are designed for operation at temperatures from -40 to +40 ° C. Each ten-car train with a length of 250 m can carry 604 passengers. In addition, there are 20-caras double trains ply between Moscow and St. Petersburg. They are designed to carry 1,112 passengers.
