Siemens Mobility has commenced deliveries of rolling stock to Egypt under its largest-ever contract, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply

The company shared photos on social media of the dispatch of the leading carriage of the partially double-decker Desiro High Capacity electric train.

These trains are set to operate at a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

In May 2022, Siemens Mobility signed a contract to construct the country’s first high-speed railway lines spanning a total length of 2,000 kilometers in partnership with local companies Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction. This ambitious project also includes the delivery of 94 four-car Desiro High Capacity trains, 41 eight-car Velaro high-speed trains, and 41 freight electric locomotives Vectron.

Siemens Mobility’s share in this project amounts to €8.1 billion.
