Ohio approves Toledo rail crossing upgrade on Erie Street
15.04.2026
The Toledo crossing upgrade has been approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. It will bring flashing lights and gates to the Erie Street grade crossing in Toledo. Ann Arbor Railroad must complete the work by April 14, 2027. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Toledo crossing upgrade scope
At Erie Street, Ann Arbor Railroad will install active warning devices under the approved plan. Also, federal funds will cover $415,600 of the project cost, as reported by Progressive Railroading. In addition, the project fits PUCO’s broader role in Ohio. That role covers decisions on active warning devices at public crossings across Ohio.
Ann Arbor Railroad and PUCO roles
Owned by Watco, Ann Arbor Railroad operates 82.4 miles of track in Ohio. It interchanges with CN, CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway, the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, Indiana & Ohio Railway, and Great Lakes Central Railroad.
Meanwhile, the commission has implemented such upgrades over the past 25 years. At the same time, train-motor vehicle crashes in the state declined significantly, according to PUCO.
