ÖBB Rail Cargo Group TransFER routes strengthen Romania links
12.01.2026
ÖBB Rail Cargo Group TransFER routes are being adjusted to strengthen intermodal services to Romania, while new TransFER services also widen links between Austria, Germany and the Netherlands, as outlined in an ÖBB press release.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
RCG says it is modifying routes, increasing frequencies to the Curtici terminal, and extending its fixed-schedule freight train network in Western Europe.

Romania: Curtici gains Liège and Duisburg connections
RCG is updating access to the Railport Arad terminal in Curtici to better match customer demand. It is replacing the former Genk–Curtici connection with TransFER Liège–Curtici, which currently runs seven round trips per week from Liège. Positioned in the center of the Benelux region, Liège offers links to the North Sea ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Zeebrugge and works as a hub between seaports, industrial centers and inland European markets.
At the same time, RCG is introducing TransFER Duisburg–Curtici, a service dedicated to continental flows with three return trips per week. Taken together, the Liège and Duisburg corridors are intended to reinforce rail freight traffic to Curtici via two major logistics hubs in Western Europe.
TransFER services and the fixed-schedule freight train model
RCG describes TransFER services as freight trains operating to fixed schedules and pre-determined stops, structured in a way that is comparable to passenger transport. Customers can book space using conventional wagons or intermodal units such as containers and swap bodies.
The group says it operates more than 60 TransFER connections, linking key economic centers in Europe and extending as far as Asia. The offer is supported by first and last mile services, transshipment, storage and customs formalities. Christoph Grasl, Chief Commercial Officer of ÖBB Rail Cargo Group, said the continued development of these connections reflects a focus on customer needs and aims to improve access to important logistics hubs while supporting a shift of freight transport to rail.
New Western Europe links: Rotterdam and Offenbach
Beyond the Romania corridor, RCG is launching TransFER Duisburg–Rotterdam to create a direct rail link between the Rheinkamp logistics hub near Duisburg and the Port of Rotterdam. The service is set to start with three round trips per week and will serve terminals at Waalhaven, Europoort, Botlek, Pernis and Maasvlakte.
RCG is also introducing TransFER Salzburg–Offenbach, a non-stop Austria–Germany connection linking the Salzburg rail hub with Offenbach, a logistics and industrial center in the Rhine–Main region near Frankfurt. The service is planned to operate two round trips per week, continuing the broader network build-out previously covered by Railway Supply.
