German passenger carrier DB Regio has placed an order with Alstom for 18 partially double-decker Coradia Max electric trains, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The plan is for 9 three-car and 9 five-car trains to initially operate on the line between Hamburg and Rostock, with an extension to Lübeck in the future.

The assembly of the rolling stock, designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h, will take place at the factory in Salzgitter, Germany.
