Norfolk Southern Activates Fresh Midwest-Southeast Intermodal Corridor
02.05.2026
Norfolk Southern Railway is preparing to launch a Cincinnati-Atlanta intermodal service next week. The domestic route will connect Cincinnati and Atlanta. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

NS officials described the service in an online announcement. They said it is intended to create a direct intermodal link. The two freight markets were described as high demand. In addition, the lane will use the Class I railroad’s existing terminal infrastructure. It will also use the railroad’s fleet of 53-foot domestic containers.
Domestic intermodal service for two-way freight
At the same time, the service is designed for freight moving in both directions. According to NS, it will provide a reliable option for moving cargo efficiently. That option covers freight moving into and out of key Midwest and Southeast markets.
Also, the railroad said the service is aimed at intermodal freight from several industries, as Progressive Railroading reported. For example, those industries include retail, consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, and industrial manufacturing.
“This expansion reflects [our] continued focus on disciplined intermodal growth, using existing network assets to deliver competitive, scalable solutions where customers need them most,” NS officials said.
