N700ST train design and delivery schedule
In a Facebook post, THSRC Chair Shih Che (史哲) compared the train’s appearance to a platypus. According to the Liberty Times, the aerodynamic design helps cut noise by 3 decibels. Also, it reduces vibration.
Shih said the train’s improved aerodynamics are especially noticeable when it enters tunnels. The N700ST is also 13 metric tons lighter than the 700T model it succeeds.
The Japan-made N700ST trains will raise peak travel capacity by 25%. Separately, the 12 sets have a price tag of NT$25.8 billion, or US$815 million.
