New account-based ticketing system to streamline Jakarta Metro passenger journeys
06.06.2026
Jakarta Metro Expansion will include a new Automatic Fare Collection system. It covers Phase 2A of the MRT North–South Line. PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (Perseroda) awarded the contract.

The agreement is designated CP207 Automatic Fare Collection System (Lebak Bulus–Kota). It covers fare collection infrastructure for the next stage of the Indonesian capital’s metro expansion.
Under the contract, Hitachi Rail and Sumitomo Corporation will deliver the AFC system. Hitachi Rail will act as system integrator and solution provider. The company will supply a new account-based ticketing system. The system is designed to handle fare payments and passenger access across the MRT network. Also, the work forms part of MRT Jakarta’s plan to expand digital and integrated mobility services.
Jakarta Metro Expansion covers new and existing stations
In practical scope, the project combines work on new and existing stations. It includes an end-to-end AFC solution for seven new stations on Phase 2 of the North–South Line. In addition, the contract covers software development and system interfaces for 13 existing Phase 1 stations. The new-station package includes design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning.
The upgraded AFC platform is planned to connect with external payment systems. These include payment gateways and JakLingko, Jakarta’s public transport integration platform. At the same time, the system is intended to give passengers more payment options. It will also support operational management across the network.
The agreement was signed in June 2026. It is expected to contribute to MRT Jakarta’s ongoing transition towards cashless ticketing and integrated transport services.
Yves Baumgartner, Vice President of Line of Business Revenue Collection Systems at Hitachi Rail, said:
“This another significant AFC project won by Hitachi Rail in Jakarta, further demonstrating our presence and commitment to the Indonesian transport market. We are committed to supporting MRT Jakarta in advancing its vision for a smarter, more connected, and future-ready urban mobility network. This innovative AFC system will not only enhance the passenger experience but also lay the foundation for a fully integrated Mobility-as-a-Service ecosystem across the city.”

MRT Jakarta Phase 2A is financed by JICA
The MRT Jakarta Phase 2A project is financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. OCG-JPCN is acting as consultant to MRT Jakarta. The wider project is part of Jakarta’s urban transport development programme. It aims to improve connectivity and public transport capacity across the metropolitan area.
The MRT Jakarta North–South Line currently links southern and central areas of the Indonesian capital. Phase 2A will extend the route further north. Separately, it will add new stations and expand the network’s coverage.
