Two regions in the southern part of the country had some of the highest heat-related disruptions. Earlswood, Surrey, saw 2,275 trains affected, and Sevenoaks in Kent saw 2,144 train delays.
Why Network Rail Is Addressing Rail Overheating?
Lisa Angus, Network Rail’s Director of Industry Weather Response, emphasized the growing risk of extreme weather. “Soaring temperatures on the railway system create immense pressure on our infrastructure,” she stated. “With these events becoming more frequent, we are focused on maintaining smooth service operations.”
Network Rail’s decision to paint the rails white forms part of their broader strategy to manage increasing climate-related disruptions. This proactive step aims to safeguard train operations and improve overall passenger experiences throughout the summer months.
