The Public Transport Authority launches its Network Control Center to enhance Australia’s Perth rail system

Located in East Perth, the new Public Transport Operations Control Centre hosts this innovative hub. A central monitoring room also connects to thousands of CCTV cameras across the network here.

Spanning approximately 1,000 square meters, the control center oversees Perth’s 500-kilometer rail network daily. It manages 87 stations and nearly 10,000 weekly services with unmatched precision and efficiency.

A massive 100-square-meter screen dominates the center, mapping the entire rail network clearly. This display delivers real-time updates on every train’s location and status instantly.

Thousands of data points feed information into servers, enabling accurate tracking continuously. Consequently, staff monitor and respond to network activities with remarkable speed and accuracy.

Perth’s METRONET project expands the rail system, adding 72 kilometers and 23 stations recently. Thus, the upgraded operations hub supports this growth and enhances capabilities effectively.

Network Control Center Drives Modernization

Meanwhile, Australia’s State Government advances its High Capacity Signalling Project across the network. This 10-year initiative modernizes train control systems and boosts capacity by 40 percent.

The signaling upgrade covers all 500 kilometers of the Transperth network comprehensively. Crews install over 7,000 transponders to pinpoint train locations with precision and reliability.

New in-cab signaling equipment enhances 125 trains, including regional Prospector and Australind services. Additionally, over 600 displays at 89 stations improve passenger information significantly.

Both State and Federal Governments fund the control hub and signaling project generously. These investments, totaling millions in USD ($), ensure Perth’s rail remains future-ready.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti praises the facility as a game-changer for rail operations. She highlights its role as the network’s nerve center for decades ahead.

Enhanced Operations with Network Control Center

Stepping inside reveals the rail system’s complexity and the effort behind its smooth operation. Staff gain a clear view of every train’s position, enabling swift issue resolution.

The advanced hub and high-capacity signaling mark a new era for Western Australia’s rail. Together, they promise more frequent, reliable, and efficient services for all passengers.

This facility positions Perth’s rail network for sustained growth and innovation moving forward. As a result, commuters enjoy enhanced travel experiences starting this April.
