Also, NCVA is a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W). The railroad is positioning the site for rail access as the facility moves toward operations.

Meanwhile, G&W officials said in a press release that, once operational, the facility will manufacture forged rings, tubular components and large-scale steel fabrications. In addition, the output is intended for construction, power generation, nuclear, offshore wind, oil and gas, defense and aerospace industries across the United States, as Business Wire notes.

Track design consultations and expected freight flows

Separately, as part of establishing rail service to the site, NCVA is providing track design consultations to USFR, a point also reflected in coverage by Railway Supply. Railroad officials anticipate hauling inbound steel plate and slab and moving outbound components from the Cofield, North Carolina operation.

“With new rail infrastructure and strong public-private partnerships, Hertford County is a prime location for manufacturing and is bolstered by dependable freight-rail service from NCVA, which has long-standing roots in the area economy and offers customers a connection to the broader North American freight-rail network via CSX,” said G&W CEO Michael Miller.

Nucor partnership and the adjacent Cofield facility

USFR has a strategic supply chain partnership with steel manufacturer Nucor Corp., and the new plant will be adjacent to Nucor’s steel processing facility in Cofield. NCVA has served the Nucor plant since 2000.
