CPKC Winnipeg yard receives 2026 Terminal of the Year award
21.04.2026
CPKC Winnipeg yard has been named the railroad’s 2026 Terminal of the Year. The award follows strong results in safety and operations. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Safety and operations behind the award
The yard serves as a key interchange point for trains moving across North America. It also handles shipments carrying freight from some of CPKC’s largest grain suppliers. In an online article, CPKC officials called the facility essential. They pointed to its location, services, and role across the Class I railroad’s network.
In 2025, the terminal posted strong safety results across several departments. It also recorded zero FRA-reportable train accidents for the second consecutive year. Compared with the previous year, the facility handled 2.7% more rail cars. It also reduced active inventory within terminal boundaries by 6.7. In addition, trip plan handling success improved by 1.3%. Terminal dwell also fell by 7.4%. CPKC officials cited those results, as reported by Progressive Railroading.
“Winnipeg stands among a select few to earn this award twice,” said Greg Squires. He is CPKC’s senior vice president of operations-Canada and Northeast United States. “In a highly challenging operating environment, this recognition reflects the exceptional effort and commitment shown throughout 2025.”
