Mallard: Fastest Steam Train

The Mallard has been designed specifically for driving high-speed trains. Its streamlined body was tested in a wind tunnel at speeds in excess of 160 km/h. The locomotive itself set a speed record for steam locomotives on July 3, 1938 (202.7 km/h on a slight slope), which no one managed to beat.

It entered the Mallard line on March 3, 1938, and was taken out of service on April 25, 1963. In 1986-87, it was restored and carried several tourist trains on the route York-Scarborough, York-Harrogate / Leeds (UK).
