Long Bridge project bus service adds a Richmond option

Meanwhile, the new Amtrak Connection service is designed for morning northbound travel to Washington. Also, it provides late-afternoon return trips. Passengers using the Richmond and Washington, D.C. express bus option will be able to complete their journey by either bus or rail. Reservations can be made online through the relevant page on Amtrak’s website.

Amtrak Connection service follows earlier Hampton Roads changes

At the same time, this latest step comes after bus service was launched on Jan. 12 for the Hampton Roads area, as previously covered by Railway Supply, to accommodate the Long Bridge project. According to Amtrak, the work requires an extensive midway work window that is expected to remain in place for the next five years.

Virginia Passenger Rail Authority cites passenger demand

Separately, VPRA Executive Director DJ Stadtler said the added Amtrak Connection service reflects the agency’s response to demand for another travel option between Richmond and Washington. “When we implemented our service changes in January, we emphasized that our teams would closely monitor ridership and look for opportunities to do more for our passengers,” VPRA Executive Director DJ Stadtler said in a press release.

“This new Amtrak Connection service is a direct result of passengers asking for another option for travel between Richmond and Washington, and working together with Amtrak, we are doing all we can to meet that need.”
