The Government has approved the plans of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for the electrification of 25 kV 50 Hz of the 309 km Kaišiadorys – Klaipeda – Draugystės route, which will complete the electrification of the 376 km corridor between Vilnius and the port city.
This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the Railway Gazette.
The cost is estimated at 398 million euros. 197 million euros should come from the European Union Cohesion Fund with further funding from the national railway Lietuvos geležinkeliai.
The ministry said the project will meet the technical and transport needs of the EU and reduce the impact of transport on the environment.
