Riders who normally rely on Lakeshore West GO trains will not have that rail option this weekend, as reported by TorontoToday.

Metrolinx is carrying out construction on the corridor as part of its plans to expand service on the route. As a result, trains will be suspended on Saturday and Sunday between Aldershot and Union Station. GO trains will still operate between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO.

What the Lakeshore West GO train closure changes?

For passengers travelling toward Toronto on Lakeshore West, the closure turns the trip into a transfer through Bramalea. They will need to board GO buses at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville or Clarkson. Then they can transfer at Bramalea to eastbound Kitchener line trains for Union Station.

Also, Metrolinx says additional Kitchener line service will operate on both weekend days because of the Lakeshore West closure. Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit, Long Branch, Mimico and Exhibition stations will not have GO train service during the shutdown.

GO bus and TTC options for Rogers Stadium trips

The agency has also advised customers to consider TTC connections to complete some trips. Suggested routes have been posted on the Metrolinx website.

Fans travelling to the Bruno Mars concert at Rogers Stadium in North York are being directed under GO Transit’s Rogers Stadium guidance to take GO bus route 30 or 47 from Bramalea GO to Highway 407 bus terminal. From there, they can connect with the TTC’s Line 1 subway and travel southbound to Downsview Park Station.

Meanwhile, the weekend closure will allow construction to continue at Long Branch GO and on the Burloak Drive underpass. Metrolinx said crews will also carry out state-of-good-repair work. That includes rail tie replacement in Oakville to help keep Lakeshore West infrastructure safe and reliable.
