According to the latest data, Kazakhstan’s exports via the Middle Corridor railway have nearly tripled in the first few months of 2023, while imports have increased by 22%

As reported by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), railway transportation on these routes from January to March 2023 increased by 63.7 percent compared to the same period last year. This information is reported by Railway Supply magazine, citing railfreight..

To provide a more comprehensive picture, KTZ stated that the Middle Corridor transported 433,200 tons of goods, totaling more than 4,000 TEUs. The company attributed this growth to infrastructure modernization conducted last year and “changing geopolitical circumstances.”

Kairat Utyapov, the CEO of KTZ Express, highlighted some peculiarities of the products shipped via the Middle Corridor. Utyapov stated that the corridor is used for transporting tomato paste, chemicals, and equipment from China to Southern Europe and Turkey.

Regarding goods exported from Kazakhstan, the main types of cargo include non-ferrous metals, ferroalloys, lentils, and grain cargoes.

The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, is an important railway route that connects China, Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, and Europe. It offers a shorter and more efficient transportation option for goods between Asia and Europe compared to traditional routes.

Kazakhstan’s increased export volume reflects the country’s growing role as a transit hub and its efforts to promote trade and connectivity with neighboring countries. The rise in imports also indicates a rise in domestic consumption and demand for foreign goods.

The expansion of railway transportation and the development of the Middle Corridor not only contribute to Kazakhstan’s economic growth but also strengthen its position as a key player in regional trade and logistics.
