Jaxport Blount Island vehicle berth hits halfway milestone
04.06.2026
Jaxport Blount Island vehicle berth construction has moved past the halfway stage, with Berth 21 still expected to be completed in 2027.

Jaxport Blount Island vehicle berth adds capacity
The Jacksonville Port Authority is developing Berth 21 next to the existing Berth 20 at the Blount Island Marine Terminal. According to Jaxport’s official project update, the terminal will have three dedicated vehicle berths once the work is finished, strengthening its vehicle-handling operations.
The new berth will share a short causeway with Berth 20. That route will connect the berth area with the terminal’s first points of rest for vehicles, linking vessel operations with the inland handling area at Blount Island.
Jaxport CEO Eric Green said the investment reflects the port’s need to prepare for future demand. He noted that Jaxport is one of the leading vehicle-handling ports in the United States, so continued infrastructure work remains important for its auto business.
Berth 21 supports growing auto vessel traffic
The project is part of a wider $60 million investment aimed at handling increasing auto vessel traffic at Blount Island. In 2025, Jaxport also expanded Berth 22 so it could accommodate vehicle vessels of up to 750 feet, a scope also outlined in the port’s Blount Island vehicle berth upgrades overview.
Funding for Berth 21 is shared between the Florida Department of Transportation and Jaxport. The state agency provided 75% of the project’s funds, while Jaxport is matching the remaining 25%.
Auto processors and rail links strengthen Jaxport
Three auto processors support Jaxport’s vehicle operations across its terminals. AMPORTS and Southeast Toyota Distributors operate at Blount Island, while Enstructure Auto Logistics works from Talleyrand.
In 2025, these auto processors moved more than 506,000 vehicles through the port. Jaxport’s official autos cargo profile also identifies the port’s auto-processing base, and CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway and Florida East Coast Railway provide rail links that support its wider logistics role.
