The Port of New York and New Jersey began 2026 with stronger activity.

According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s “Breaking Waves” newsletter, total volume reached 749,906 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs).

Also, that was 4% more than a year earlier.

Meanwhile, 58,522 containers moved through the port by rail in January.

In addition, that was an increase of 11.5%.

At the same time, 30,758 autos moved through the port.

Also, that figure was up 30.2%.

Separately, exports rose 13.9% from January 2025 to 112,426 TEUs.

Still, imports fell 1.5% to 372,973 TEUs.

ExpressRail Terminals and rail access

Separately, direct on-dock rail access is provided at the port’s ExpressRail Terminals.

Also, CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway provide that service.
