J-TREC Electric Train Improves the Urban Transit of Tokyo

The new ten-car train operates on a 12-kilometer route managed by TWR, linking Tokyo’s key business and residential districts. It plays a crucial role in boosting the line’s capacity and reducing travel times across the network.

The six drive vehicles feature asynchronous motors with a rating of 140 kW, supplied by Mitsubishi’s IGBT converters. It enhances energy effectiveness and reliability with reduced noise when it is in operation.

Compared with earlier models of the 70-000 series, manufactured by Kawasaki from 1995 until 2004, the new aircraft was wider in body length (2,998 mm) and narrower in floor, thereby improving ease of boarding and getting down for all occupants.

J-TREC Electric Train Enhances Comfort as well as Energy Efficiency

It is well-equipped with specially reserved space for strollers and wheelchairs in each carriage, with 486 seats and a passenger load of 1,544 for packing during peak loads.

Sustina S24 family stainless steel is used for constructing the train bodies, which was initially launched in 2018. Standardized electric systems include the well-tested JR East used E233 series, making maintenance easy as well as minimizing operating expenses.

TWR has placed an order for eight trainsets, all of them to be finished by 2027. According to experts, the project is Japan’s larger plan of rejuvenating urban transport through innovation, sustainability, and passenger-oriented design.

The new train not only upgrades the Rinkai Line but also substantiates J-TREC’s leadership in creating advanced rail solutions for great cities. Hence, its launch constitutes a useful example for other Asian metropolis networks.
