20.01.2023
In Istanbul, the construction of a new metro line M11 is being completed, which will connect the city with the new airport on January 22. Opened in 2019, the new Istanbul Airport for a long time was served only by bus service. The metro line in this direction was just being built, Railway Supply magazine reports, citing Passenger Transport.
The M11 line will connect a number of areas of the city with the airport, but the section from Kagitkhane will be launched first. At the station “Kagithane” you can transfer to the M7 metro line. In total, the M11 line will be extended by one more station – to Gayrettepe, where there will be a transfer hub to the M2 metro line, which runs through the center of Istanbul, as well as to high-speed buses.

In total, three stations are planned at the airport – “Terminal 2”, “Istanbul Airport” and “Cargo Terminal”. According to the minister, the fastest metro trains in Turkey will be launched on the route – they will reach a speed of 120 km/h.
Thus, from the Kagithane district in the north of Istanbul, the airport can be reached in 24 minutes.
