This initiative aims to modernize the city’s transportation infrastructure and improve the quality of public transport for its residents.

According to a $656 million contract between the Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) and a consortium including Hyundai Rotem and NERIC, a total of 30 trains (320 cars) are planned to be delivered by 2028 for lines 2 and 3 of the Cairo Metro.

This partnership not only promotes local industry development but also involves over 30% of the train manufacturing being done at the SEMAF Egyptian factory, owned by the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI).

Each train will undergo regular maintenance over an eight-year operational period, including one major overhaul, ensuring long-term and safe operation of this crucial urban infrastructure element.
