HS2 Launches Seventh Innovation Accelerator to Advance Rail Technology

HS2 has unveiled its seventh Innovation Accelerator programme to drive advancements in railway technology. This initiative will support small businesses and enhance the reliability of future train services. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Key Challenges Tackled by HS2
HS2’s Innovation Accelerator focuses on three key areas: automating asset management, improving productivity, and future-proofing rail operations. Six SMEs will develop technological solutions over a 20-week period.

The programme is a collaboration with Connected Places Catapult and the Department for Transport. SMEs will work closely with HS2 and industry partners to refine their innovations and present them to stakeholders.
HS2’s Commitment to Supporting SMEs
Participating companies include Archangel Imaging, Complete Cyber, and Machines for Construction, among others. These businesses will tackle critical challenges, such as infrastructure monitoring, asset security, and robotic automation.
Since 2020, HS2 has supported 37 SMEs, leading to 29 pilot projects and £220M in investment. The initiative has created over 430 new UK jobs, demonstrating its economic impact.

HS2 continues to transform Britain’s rail system, supporting over 31,000 jobs. This high-speed railway will deliver faster, more reliable travel and boost economic growth while reducing congestion.
