Helena Road crossing closure

The work is expected to affect traffic in parts of the city while crews repair the nearby section of track. In a Facebook post on Thursday, June 25⁠, the City of Helena said the crossing will be closed once the repairs begin.

The closure is expected to last between 48 and 72 hours, and drivers are being asked to adjust their travel plans while the work is underway.

“Please plan ahead and use an alternate route during this time,” the post from the city of Helena read. “We appreciate your patience as these important repairs are made to improve safety.”

Shelby County maintenance repairs

The Helena work is part of a wider series of CSX maintenance repairs across Shelby County in July. In Pelham, repairs are scheduled⁠ to start on Monday, July 13, at crossings on County Road 52 and Stonehaven Trail.

Alabaster is also included in the July schedule. Railroad crossing repairs there are planned for nearly all crossings⁠ inside the city limits, with work set to begin on a staggered basis from Thursday, July 9.

The maintenance is connected to cross tie replacement, which helps keep tracks properly aligned. CSX is carrying out the work as the ties reach their periodic replacement point, with the aim of supporting safe railroad operations and providing smoother crossings for road users.

What is known about traffic?

Official city notices show that the work is part of a wider set of rail crossing closures in Shelby County. Pelham said its County Road 52 and Stonehaven Trail crossings will each close for about 48 to 72 hours during the week of July 13, but they will not be closed simultaneously. Alabaster said its listed crossings are expected to close for 48–72 hours sometime between July 9 and July 17, with more exact timing to be shared as CSX provides updates.
