A recent Fuxing bullet train test ride put the faster timings on display, with Guangzhou to Maoming taking approximately 70 minutes and bringing western Guangdong closer to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway trials and journey times

On the latest run, train G5217 left Guangzhou Baiyun Station at 10 a.m. and arrived at Maoming South Station around 11 a.m. The train traveled at a steady 350 km/h. From Maoming to Zhanjiang North Station, the journey took only about 25 minutes.

The railway has a total length of 401 kilometers and a design speed of 350 km/h. It is described as a key section of China’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network, linking the GBA with the Beibu Gulf urban cluster and the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Maoming South Station as a western Guangdong hub

Maoming South Station is presented as a core hub on the western Guangdong section of the line. Its station building spans 15,000 square meters and uses a wave-inspired design that reflects Maoming’s coastal identity. The facility is equipped with smart security systems, widespread charging points, and passenger service zones.

The station operates three platforms with seven lines. During peak hours, it can handle up to 2,500 passengers, supporting demand as services ramp up.

Faster regional trips and one-hour logistics channels

According to station officials, trains will stop only briefly at intermediate stations, reducing overall travel time. From Maoming South Station, passengers can reach Mate Station in about 10 minutes, Zhanjiang’s city center in 30 minutes, and Guangzhou in just 70 minutes. That schedule is framed as enabling same-day leisure travel—morning tea in the GBA followed by fresh seafood in western Guangdong.

The Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway is also expected to boost economic and cultural exchanges. Agricultural specialties such as Maoming lychees and Huajuhong (citrus) are set to reach GBA markets faster via one-hour logistics channels. Meanwhile, tourists should find it easier to visit Maoming’s coastal attractions, supporting local tourism growth.

Scheduled to launch in December, Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway will offer frequent daily services between Guangzhou and Zhanjiang, covering peak commuting and off-peak travel needs. Maoming South Station will enhance connectivity with local transport networks, providing dedicated bus routes and taxi stands for seamless “rail-to-city” transfers.
