Ukraine wants to limit the service life of railway cars again

On February 22, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine promulgated a draft order “On approval of the Procedure for establishing a ban on the operation of freight wagons on railway transport”. They plan to limit the service life of the wagons to one and a half of the standard. One of the objectives of the order is “to increase the interest of freight car operators in the purchase of new freight rail cars from Ukrainian manufacturers.” This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the message of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

“The draft act defines a mechanism for prohibiting the operation of vehicles, in particular freight cars of railway transport, and introduces a limitation of the service life of certain types of railcars, including gondola cars and grain carriers, namely, no more than one and a half assigned service life,” the transport departments.

Comments and proposals to the project are accepted within a month from the date of publication.

As the deputy director of the department of commercial work of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” Valery Tkachev noted on his Facebook page, this is the third edition of this order.

“In short: the procedure for introducing a ban on the operation of freight cars has been determined; the decision on the ban is made by the head or deputy head of the State Trans Security Service; the maximum service life of wagons of all types is set (for open-top wagons – 33 years, for grain carriers – 45 years); the extension of the service life of the car is carried out exclusively through the KRP and for a period of 3 years ”, – Valery Tkachev reports.
