It has become known that the start of Turkey’s largest private railway tourism project, announced in April 2021, the five-star Cappadocia Express tourist train, has now been postponed to February 2022. Earlier it was assumed that the luxury train will start running in Cappadocia in late 2021.

This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply.

The project of the first private luxury tourist train is being implemented jointly with the Japanese tourist group HIS Travel and the Turkish company Sun Group, which deals with railway infrastructure. The license of the railway operator of the joint venture of these two companies was obtained in December 2020, having purchased locomotives for future warehouses.

At the first stage, it was planned to invest 40 million euros in the Cappadocia Express project. The target audience is tourists who are ready to spend at least 5 thousand euros for a trip.

It is planned to launch the Ankara-Cappadocia and Istanbul-Cappadocia routes. Both trains will run daily and arrive in Kayseri. Rolling stock fleet will include two locomotives, 14 railcars. A total of 294 people will be accommodated on each tourist train. The operator intends to transport at least 200,000 tourists a year to Cappadocia.

It is known, however, that the project HIS Travel and Sun Group is not going to stop in one Cappadocia: in 7-8 years luxury tourist trains will start operating from Istanbul and / or Ankara to Eastern Anatolia, Mesopotamia, the Black Sea region (Karadeniz) and Aegean coast.
