Today, the first national mainline electric locomotive E5000 went on the rails. According to a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the electric E5000 will be used for the first time at the opening ceremony in Eskisehir. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Railly News.

E5000 was developed by the Institute of Railway Transport Technology in accordance with the needs of the State Railways of the Republic of Turkey (TCDD).

The body, bogies, train control and management systems, traction converter, transformer, auxiliary power unit, all this is made in Turkey. In addition, the E5000 is equipped with the most powerful Turkish electric motor for rail vehicles. All the main components developed for the E5000 are interesting in that they use technologies that can be exported as separate products. The 5 MW E5000 has a European Union technical certificate (TSI) and is capable of transporting goods and passengers at speeds up to 140 km/h.

It is planned to produce 500 locomotives over the next 10 years.
