RIA Chief Executive Darren Kaplan said: We congratulate Prime Minister Liz Truss on her assumption of office. While she looks at the industries that can contribute to the future success and prosperity of the UK, the rail industry is ready and willing to play a part in her plans to drive economic growth, raise standards and help the government achieve its Net Zero goals.

“Rail is key to the future of the UK, not only connecting cities and towns across the country, but also helping to create and sustain economic growth, hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions of pounds in tax revenue. For every £1 spent on the railroad, there is £2.50 in the economy as a whole.”

Liz Truss was elected leader of the Conservatives on September 5, and on September 6 at Balmoral Castle, the Queen asked her to form a government.
