On October 24, the governor of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation announced that an explosive device had damaged the railway in the Novozybkovo area, about 15 km from the Russian-Belarusian border. The line is the main railway line between the Russian Federation and the south of Belarus. This is reported by Railway Supply magazine, citing a UK military intelligence report.

rail partizans

The Russian anti-war group Stop the Wagons claimed responsibility. This is at least the sixth incident of sabotage against Russian railways the group has reported since June. Such acts of sabotage are part of a broader trend of attacks by rail partizans on railways in both Russia and Belarus. The Russian authorities are doing everything they can to stop the online presence of the Stop the Wagons group.

For the transfer of troops to Ukraine, the Russian military mainly relies on rail transport. But with a network of over 33,000 km, the system is very difficult to defend against physical threats. The leadership of the Russian Federation is increasingly concerned that even a small group of citizens are sufficiently opposed to the conflict to resort to sabotage.
