The first regional high-speed rail transit system (RRTS) in India has been inaugurated, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
The project, initially approved in 2019, aims to reduce travel time between the country’s three major cities.

India’s first regional high-speed rail transit system (RRTS) commenced operations in the state of Uttar Pradesh after a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The inaugural RAPIDX train started running on Friday, October 20, on a 17-kilometer stretch from Sahibabad to Duhai, part of the $4 billion RRTS project, which was first approved in February 2019.
Eventually, this system will connect the country’s capital, Delhi, to Ghaziabad and Meerut, two major cities in Uttar Pradesh.
The RRTS network, managed by the subsidiary Deutsche Bahn DB International Operations (DBIO) and constructed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), will eventually cover 82 km with 25 stations and feature high-speed intercity trains operating every 15 minutes when it becomes fully operational by 2025.
